Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) broke ground on two new campus facilities - a new residence hall and dining hall. Both have expected completion dates in 2025.
The new residence hall, scheduled for completion in June 2025, will have entertainment areas on each floor in community common areas, along with a full kitchen, lounge spaces and study areas for students. Cosmetically, the space will present an open concept and an updated, architectural style.
The new dining hall, set to replace the current structure, will offer a new flow for students to enjoy a state-of-the-art experience, including a “Made-To-Order Station” for hot and cold foods and a produce station. Upgraded, open seating and modernized lighting and entertainment systems will allow for live music and social events in the space. It is scheduled to open January 2025.
“Our university is deeply committed to providing accessible and affordable higher education to all who seek it, and building the new dining and residence hall will support our mission of ensuring that every student receives a quality education in state-of-the-art facilities,” said Chancellor Karrie G. Dixon. “A very special thank you to the NC General Assembly for their support and unwavering commitment to excellence, allowing Elizabeth City State University to thrive as a center of academic excellence and a beacon of hope for all seeking knowledge and opportunity.”
The groundbreaking is part of several recent existing and planned upgrades and renovations on campus. In June, the university hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Pavilion, the only one of its kind in North Carolina. In August, the university hosted a ribbon-cutting for three new, student-centered campus additions – a skate park, a regulation size volleyball court, and a collegiate size basketball court.
